About VTLUUG

The Virginia Tech Linux & UNIX Users’ Group (VTLUUG) is a special interest group, based out of Virginia Tech, for anyone with an interest in Linux and/or Unix operating systems.

Joining is free of… well, anything. We do not require money, partcipation, or pledges of activity. While the majority of our members are in some way associated with Virginia Tech, we do have members from the surrounding area - and anyone is welcome to join at any time. Everyone decides their own level of participation. In fact, we don’t really have a formal list of membership. If you are on the listserv, you are a member in our eyes.

We are an event-based organization, and the majority of our activities are in the form of events like seminars, tutorials (called “Birds of a Feather Sessions”, or BOFs), install-fests, or whatever else our members come up with.

Other primary activities include providing Linux / Unix support to the university, its students, or anyone who contacts us asking for help, promoting the use and understanding of Linux / Unix, and generally just having fun.

We rely primarily on donations for funding, as well as some up-and-coming fundraisers. If you are interested in sponsoring VTLUUG, we are eager to work with you! Use the “Contact” page to get a hold of us and let us know!

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email vtluug@vtluug.org!
