Fall 2006 Installfest

Hey all,

Due in part to the terrific turnout we saw at the Crash Courses this past week, we are sponsoring an Installfest this semester, which will occur on Sunday, October 15th, from 1:00 PM till 6:00 PM in GBJ 102. Officers and members will be on hand to assist in the installation of CentOS, Debian, Fedora Core, Gentoo, Ubuntu, and Solaris, as well as to oversee the raffle of a wide variety of O’Reilly technical books - something that was a big hit at our last Installfest.

All are welcome to attend - no registration is necessary, and the event is also completely free, with no charge for any of the software (we can’t very well charge for free software, after all). We strongly encourage everyone in attendance to backup their data, as an operating system install is not without risks. If anyone should have any questions about the Installfest, please feel free to post on the forums so that we may answer your questions. We are looking forward to seeing all of you on the 15th!

Hey all!

The planning meeting went very well, and we are now working with a list of possible events.

Head over to the forums and check out this thread and let us know what events you are willing to help out with!

We have decided to hold the install fest on Sunday, April 23rd starting at 2:00 PM. For the latest news about the event check out the forums. Also remember, this is when we had planned to have the “Linux Fair” to have many distributions on display.

INSTALL FEST

We’ve decided to have an install fest to try to gain awareness and to hopefully bring new members to the club. Currently we have not been able to decide on a date or location but if you have an opinion let it be heard in the forums. We’re going to need some help from current members to get this thing off the ground. First of all, we need publicity, so please tell your friends, have your professors promote it, make up fliers, do whatever needs to be done. Be sure to mention the free food and Linux CD’s available. We also have some O’Reilly books that we’ll be raffling off to the people that show up. Next we need people to be able to help out that day with the installs. We’re planning to install FC 5 and Ubuntu 5.10 but you can always bring your own favorite distro. Also if anyone is interested we can hold some BoF sessions during the event, just reply with a topic and if possible a leader / presenter. The planning for this event is all taking place in our VTLUUG forums under the “Get Involved” heading, so if you don’t already have an account you can make one here: REGISTER

Clothing / Logo Designs

As a fundraiser, we would like to start selling VTLUUG clothing. However, before we do so - we need designs!

If you have an idea for a design that you think would sell, send one of the officers a picture of it. If your design is chosen - we’ll give you some free stuff.

Also, we are sorely in need of a new logo! If you have any ideas, draw them up and send them to us!

Please have your designs in within 2 weeks (the 3rd of April)!
