Hey all!

This Thursday, from 8 PM to 10PM in Squires Room 145 we will be hosting another casual, round-table BoF on the topics listed.  If you have something you want to contribute or another topic you think would be fun to cover, come on out and bring your laptop!  There will be a projector and screen so you can show off your know-how.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Hey all!

This Wednesday, between 8:30 and 10:30, there will be a BoF on ‘Hacks & Tricks’ in Room 234 of Squires.

The gathering will be hosted by Casey Link, although it will be less of a presentation and more of a round-table discussion of people talking about and showing off cool tricks and hacks they have put together. If you have something you would like to contribute, come by and share! This is a very informal meeting, and will likely be low-key as it immediately follows the break. The list of topics that will be covered by Casey are:

* Bootsplash
* Easy Automated backups: both to other drives and remote machines
* Some nifty (usually) default terminal utilities:
wget, screen, kill, killall, grep, slocate, apropos, cal, du, df
(the list could go on and on)
* Vim shortcuts
* Emacs — don’t shoot me!
* SSH tunnels and X11 forwarding
* checkinstall
* the wonders of ImageMagick
* and more!

Hey all,

As Ben noted, the next presentation / BoF session will be Wednesday, January 31st, starting at 8:30 PM in Squires 236, and going until 10:30. I do not anticipate a long presentation, and instead having a rather long Q&A session. That said, if there is anything you would like addressed, and know it beforehand, I strongly encourage you to e-mail me at elbles AT sessys DOT com, and I will attempt to integrate your questions into my presentation. The deadline for submission will be Sunday at 6:00 PM - I apologize for the short notice, but my schedule is sort of tight. I am looking forward to seeing all of you there, to start another semester of VTLUUG off.

-Sean
